It is possible to use the Nero AAC encoder with aTunes (1.9.0 or higher). For legal reasons this encoder is not shipped with the regular release. Please read the licence included in the zip file first if you want to use this encoder. If you want to take advantage of this encoder, you will have to do the following:

Linux

  • Open a terminal if you haven't already done so and go to the location where the unzipped files are:
      cd NeroDigitalAudio
  • Go to the linux folder, copy the file neroAacEnc to /usr/bin and make it executable:
      cd linux
      sudo cp neroAacEnc /usr/bin/neroAacEnc
      sudo chmod +x /usr/bin/neroAacEnc
  • Restart aTunes and you can now use the Nero AAC encoder.

Microsoft Windows

  • Move the file neroAacEnc.exe to the win-tools folder of aTunes
